Travellers have protective angels

In 2012 I went to an English speaking country for the last time. The excuse for travelling was my accent improvement, but what I really wanted was to wander around England, thus the route included many small towns in the Cotswold region - quintessentially English - as they're used to say. Indeed a magical place!
But I had some trouble moving from town to town, both because it's not very touristic and because it was winter time, I mean, its tourism is nationals mainly, and they head there by car.
This day I was staying in Cirencester and took a bus to visit Bibury. Beautiful! But really tiny. Half a day and I was done with it. That's when I found out there would be a bus at only 8 pm. Someone told me it was 7 miles distance and I decided to walk back home, because I had no idea how far it was in kilometers!
I found myself in a road crossing farms, huge trucks from time to time and cold increasing steeply. Few cars, but a Landrover passed by me and returned some minutes later. The driver was a really gorgeous girl who came up to be very friendly too, and she gave me a ride, which proved that the English can be very welcoming. She said she felt sorry for my situation and that she was sure I was a lost outsider. We chatted a lot. When I mentioned I was Brazilian she got excited and started talking about beaches and football (of course). She had dated Cristiano Ronaldo (hahaha).

the route (whose route) ??? but but but - this isn't wrong per se but it is a stylistic consideration, generally we don't start sentences with but when writing essays (but its totally cool on face book!) half a day (of what)??? You need to put more information on the corrections tagged with ??? Good job as always!

Clayton.Henderson, thank you for your attention, as always! I understood your corrections (or "I've understood your corrections"?), my lack of information is connected with my mother tongue, we tend to implicit meanings.
