Learning Japanese

I guess languages that require lots of memorizing, particularly in the writing side of things. I'm thinking that Chinese, while grammatically not as complex as other languages (based on anecdotal notes from friends lol), their writing approach can be considered the biggest barrier to mastery.

I mean when I started studying Japanese I was already losing my mind with the 2000 kanjis that's required for "basic fluency", the Chinese language has a more robust number of characters and I guess it's safe to say that it takes much longer to get familiar with. Beautiful language tho don't get it twisted.
