In the welcome mail that I got. There is a click link to verify. Most websites also provide the full link apart from the hyperlink from text. This would help users who might not be using rich text on mail clients.

I found out we have an html and plain text version that gets sent out, if the client can't render html they can render the plaintext version. Your client can render html, so you got the hyperlink. So this isn't a bug.
