Tagalog Grammar Lite Lesson 31 Pseudo Verbs2
Group 2 Pseudo-Verbs
About Group 2 Pseudo-Verbs: although I listed 5 above, we aren’t going to use maari because it’s not as common as common as puwede. That leaves us with bawal, dapat, puwede and huwag.
The difference between Group 1 and Group 2 Pseudo-Verbs
Unlike Group 1, with Group 2 you don’t change AF actors to ng-form and you don’t move them to the enclitic-cluster unless they are personal pronouns.
Take the sentence
Ex: Nagbasa siya ng libro.
= He read a book.
and add the Group 2 pseudo-verb dapat
Ex: Dapat siyang magbasa ng libro.
= He should read a book. (Group 2)
Now let’s compare with the Group 1 pseudo-verb gusto
Ex: Gusto niyang magbasa ng libro.
= He wants to read a book. (Group 1)
Huwag is special
Although huwag is used in some more advanced constructions, we only use it to negate imperative sentences in this book.
Ex: Huwag kang magbasa ng libro.
= Don’t read a book.
Same as Group 1 Pseudo-Verbs except in AF basic-sentences actor doesn’t change form and goes in the enclitic cluster only if it’s a personal pronoun
Huwag is only used to negate imperative sentences.
